Acton Main Line - consultation on highway and public realm improvements

(Update 18/04/2018 - Council says "There was an overall support for the scheme except for the proposal to ban the right turn from Horn Lane into Emanuel Avenue. Therefore, we are recommending to proceed to the detail design with the current right turn into Emanuel Avenue retained.")

There is a new consultation from Ealing council about changes to the roads, pavements and bus stops around Acton Main Line station.
This is directly related to the upcoming Crossrail/Elizabeth Line stop at Acton Main Line.

You have until 26th February to respond - so get your say in now.

A quick summary of the proposed changes - taken directly from the consultation document:

  • The Horn Lane/Friary Road junction is to be converted to a roundabout to ease congestion
  • Bus stops will be shifted further south so they are in closer proximity to the station (subject to Network Rail approval)
  • Station building relocated further to the south
  • Realignment and narrowing of the carriageway to allow for improved access to the station by cyclist and pedestrians while maintaining motor vehicle capacity through the junction
  • New zebra crossings across Horn Lane Resurfacing of footways and removing of unnecessary street furniture to improve public realm
  • New cycle parking at the station
  • Proposed banned right turn from Horn Lane into Emanuel Avenue to improve flow of traffic on Horn Lane

One proposal that was not included in the bullet points is to provide a brick surfaced drop-off/pick-up area.

Please could a big sign be posted on the new mini roundabout prohibiting lorries and stating that there is no access to the A40 via Friary Road. We have many lorries passing who think they have access and then have great difficulty in turning round and returning to the Horn Lane. They have demolished the fencing all around the triangle in their efforts.

Good idea.
Make sure that you complete the consultation response on the Ealing Council web site - and you can add that comment to the feedback in their form.
